At Manic Maids, we believe a clean space can make your day feel lighter, calmer, and just a little bit easier. That’s been our mission since 1990, when Sonia first started cleaning homes from her apartment in Bucktown. She had recently stepped away from a successful modeling career in search of something more grounded. What began as a few cleaning jobs quickly turned into a full schedule of loyal clients who loved her attention to detail and her positive attitude.
As the demand grew, Sonia realized she couldn’t do it all on her own. So she built a team—with two central aims:
- Deliver great cleaning
- Be easy to work with
Sonia called the company Manic Maids, a name that reflected how committed she was to going above and beyond (to emphasize how serious she was, the other company name was Mop Til We Drop). This dedication caught on across Chicago’s North Side neighborhoods, where word-of-mouth helped grow the business.
The company’s first slogan was “We Can Do It,” inspired by Rosie the Riveter. It represented the spirit of hard work and dependability that’s still at the heart of what we do today.
Sonia started advertising Rosie and the slogan on local bus benches.
The business continued to grow with those ads, and a lot of our customers still recognize the company from those bus benches.
As the company grew, Sonia kept one value front and center: treat your cleaners well. That meant hiring great people, paying fairly, and creating a culture where cleaners could thrive. Because when your cleaning techs feel respected and supported, they do excellent work—and that leads to happy customers who come back again and again.
Over the last 30+ years, Manic Maids has served over 5,000 clients—from apartments and homes to offices, short-term rentals, HOAs, and even post-construction cleanups. We’ve cleaned it all. And through every job, we’ve stayed committed to doing things the right way: reliable service, quality results, and real people you can trust in your space.
Today, we operate from our office in Logan Square. While Sonia has stepped away from operations, the new owner Marko has carried the torch with the same dedication. He’s kept the focus on high-quality cleaning, dependable service, and taking great care of our team. All of our cleaning techs are W-2 employees, so we never send contractors or temps to your home. Many of our cleaning techs have been with us for years—something we’re incredibly proud of in an industry where turnover is usually high.
