Dear Client,
You’re receiving this message as a regular customer of Manic Maids. We rarely send emails, but I need to discuss the situation with increased ICE activity in Chicago and our workforce.
As you know, our cleaning techs are Hispanic, with most being immigrants. This is common in the cleaning industry, and we have I-9 documentation for all employees. Our employees have been with us for years, pay taxes, and are good people.
However, these are very uncertain times. ICE activity is increasingly widespread and indiscriminate. We’re hearing that ICE is often around the schools of our employees’ children and is extremely active in Chicago’s Hispanic communities. It’s unclear who is targeted and why, with no transparency on what happens after someone is detained.
While there’s no reason to think ICE is searching for our employees, our people can easily be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The due process with ICE is unclear, at best, and a temporary detention can be devastating. Or, something could happen to a loved one. Unfortunately, the latter did happen, forcing one of our cleaning techs to go on leave. It was very sad for us.
We are doing everything we can to protect our employees. We’re covering parking and Uber costs, delivering cleaning supplies to techs, and limiting areas where we accept new clients. The goal is to take every step to prevent our cleaning techs from being exposed to a bad situation.
We ask for your patience and support during these uncertain times. There will likely be more instances of schedule changes or limited availability. We might have to send a different cleaning tech at times. We will always communicate any changes, and we really hope we never need to pause service. We want you to continue choosing us for your cleanings.
We hope this situation settles down. Our cleaning techs are doing their best during this challenging time. This work is their livelihood, and they still show up with a good attitude. I remind them that we are fortunate to have great customers and work indoors.
Thank you again for being a customer. Your support means everything.
Regards,
Marko Lazarevic, Owner of Manic Maids
